Meet the Flockers: Elizabeth Perry

pittsburgh1L.jpg

I’m a sketchblogger. People told me that the way to learn to draw was to draw – so I’ve been drawing something from my life every day for almost two years now, and posting each drawing to my blog, woolgathering…

I plan to visit once a week and bring you a new view of Pittsburgh, where I live.

I like the perspective in your drawing, since perspective is what it’s all about. I’m looking forward to seeing Pittsburgh through you in the coming weeks.

    Are you from Pittsburgh originally?

I have worked with folks who grew up there. Pittsburgh people are a very particular sort of people.

    I am transplanted here.

Came to Pittsburgh for graduate school – 22 years ago – and apart from a year in Iowa, have been here ever since, watching it develop as an amazing unsung place. No ocean, but strong arts funding, interesting architecture, congenial creative people, offbeat neighborhoods, and VERY low cost of living.

You can get a sense of the place if you browse through the Pittsburgh group on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/groups/pittsburgh/). I hope to reflect on that in my drawings over the coming year…

I’m very glad you are here, Elizabeth. It will be a pleasure to see your newest drawings and those from the past as well.

And rivers and streams and cricks, Elizabeth. The spooky invisibility of Pittsburgh keeps it just right in size and attitude.

Oh my god! You’ve only been doing this for two years? I love your watercolors on your woolgathering site, and I love this sketch (yes, cool shoes!). Wow. Impressive. I’ve got you bookmarked in both places.
