See the Flockers: Andrew Simone

This is an oil painting of me done by John Scott Murdoch. It is fairly typical, notice: the bags under my eyes, the collar hanging out of the sweater, and the strange halo surrounding my head.
I use this as my image, despite it typicality, since it is a painting and, therefore, only a simulacrum of my true self. And, to further this postmodern ridiculousness, this is a picture of the painting of me (a simulacrum of a simulacrum!!). Welcome to the hyper-reality that is the internet.
You may click the painting to see a true simulcrum and a better atypical likeness of myself. And, in the spirit of one-up-manship, I have provided an audio comment on this project.
Lastly, I still read Ezra Pound, smoke and need a shave. And I want Cooper’s glasses.
Oh, and I do have a personal blog.

I still read Pound as well, though less stylishly (i.e., with a beard and a cigarette).
Cooper’s glasses would add a certain je ne sais quoi to almost any man’s appearance.
But they would not transform him into Cooper. Nor ought they.
I love the photo of you on flickr.
Thanks, Deron. It was taken last night in front of my friend’s apartment in old North St. Louis.
Some things are too much to ask for, I think, Sheila.
I know that I have never gone so far as to seek transformation into Cooper.
Yes, I see the halo! I see the glazed look in your eyes–from the liquor, I take it?
Actually, the painter happened to be my old bartender, um…so yes.
Has this ruined “it”?
I don’t think so. I am with Deron, this is way more fun than I thought.
“It” withstands ruination.
it just struck me that brandon may have ment my flickr photo, in which case the glaze in my eyes is ennui: Life beats a man down.
Okay, Andrew, you can’t fool me. You posted a link to something-or-other a few months ago–a mini film of you holding up books important to you, and your whole self appeared at the end of that. I saw it, and it looks nothing like the portrait. As I recall, you resemble Vincent D’Onofrio (a marvelous person to resemble). Show us the real thing!
Andrew,
Just comparing and contrasting your Flickr picture with this. This one crops out a cigarette that he’s holding; and, given that Faulkner’s three requirements for writing were “paper, tobacco, whiskey,” well . . .
