See the Flockers: Daryl Scroggins
I’m usually the one taking the pictures, so I’m not in many of them. This one was taken last summer in my back yard garden. I put the camera on a ladder and set the timer; my presence is for scale–the important thing is the okra plants beside me, the tallest of which eventually reached eleven feet.

Eleven feet, eh? Gee, that’s awful big.
How tall does okra normally grow? (forgive my ignorance- I love the stuff, but I’ve never seen it alive)
Hi Mary, Okra doesn’t usually get that tall–but mostly because people stop harvesting the okra whan they can’t reach it easily, and that kind of makes it stop getting taller. I stop harvesting from most plants, but sometimes I get the ladder out and keep picking it to see how tall a particular “tree” will get. The best pods, though, come from the younger plants; they are not so tough and they stay fresh longer. All of which is surely more than you wanted to know! If you lived nearby I would keep you supplied…. Cindy love it for bhindi
he said bhindi.
How does “bhindi” come out in that Texas drawl of yours, Daryl?
bah-in-dee
Daryl, whyn’t you make a postcard out of that photo? “TEXAS-SIZED OKRA PLANT”
Sheila, maybe I should just show the Big Pod.
With or without Little Pants?
with the little pants. torn.
(Actually, I walked right into that one; I really do have a picture of pods that would serve as prosthetic horns for a steer.)
