In one of David Foster Wallace’s essays he basically says QT is nowhere near the director David Lynch is–something along the lines of QT being more interested in watching someone’s ear get cut off (Resevoir Dogs) while David Lynch is simply interested in the ear (Blue Velvet).

Actually, Brandon, you hit the nail on the head (or DFW did). Although, I would not have been as articulate.
Lynch, however, does not excite me very much either. I do not deny his skill, but (for me) his movies fall flat.
I agree. While Lynch does interesting stuff, I think he goes overboard in the dream vs. reality category, which ends up just being too confusing.
