Suggest a Link

It’s easy to suggest a link to the ‘flock. All you have to do is sign up for an account (you can lie about everything, except for your email if you expect a response) and leave a comment here.

We read everything that comes our way (but we don’t guarantee that all suggested links will be posted). It’s not a delicate matter, it’s just the way we roll. And we appreciate your input!

Not sure if this took the first time . . .

Ironic Sans. Puns and other off-kilter looks at the ordinary.

Panopticist. “Cultural Surveillance” by a graphic designer.

Literary Kicks just blipped a blink on my (admittedly rusty) radar. So far I can say that I like that fact that Levi Asher actually reads what he reviews.

Ah . . . and I’d also like to add Dan Lockton’s Architectures of Control | Design with Intent. I read it. Sean Salmon reads it. It’s good.

While your sitting around tonight, downing Irish Car Bombs to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day I can almost guarantee one of your drunk buddies will ask, “why the hell is there a ball in my Guinness.” I know, I used to be that drunk buddy.

    Obscenicons.

It’s fun in its own right, but if anyone wants to do a little digging there’s also this:

It’s an interesting question when and in what context these conventions for the use of punctuation marks (as obscenicons in writing in English, as “unclaricons” on Japanese television) arose. The history of the non-punctuational obscenicons in comics is also interesting. I know nothing about these topics and probably won’t take up researching them — my plate is already overfull — but the history of cultural practices is almost always worth investigating.

This leaves the reader of Saddam’s diaries with a strong impression that may perhaps be aptly summed up in the words of US novelist F Scott Fitzgerald: “The secret griefs of wild unknown men… or at least the terms in which they express them, are usually plagiaristic and marred by obvious suppressions.”

Two supergeeks make a computer case ENTIRELY out of duct tape, even the moving parts. The craftsmanship is impressive because it involves weaving, layering, and fasteners made of tape. It is a work of art.
