See a Flocker: Rick Neece
At the A-Cat-emy Awards

Last night attended the Fur Ball. A benefit for Wayside Waifs, a large and well-known animal shelter here in Kansas City. (Our two cats, Charlie and Tulle were rescuees.) Silent auction and live auction usually raises over a quarter mil during the course of the evening. Auction items include cruises and Cooper Minis. The funnest part? When they run out of items to sell, the auctioneer says “Who’ll bid $25,000?” And a hand or two or three will go up. Then he works his way backwards down the money line until ordinary folks like myself might feel more comfortable raising a hand. It’s pretty cool. Above, me, outside taking a break. And below, my choice of accessories for the evening.

Those pictures are nothing short of brilliant, Rick
I didn’t realize you are in Kansas City. Good to know (I’m in Wichita, by the way).
Great pictures, Rick, and what a cool event. I like the part where people bid on nothing at all!
What did you do to merit *two* cat-Oscars? Winning just one is more than I could hope to achieve in my lifetime.
Andrew, thanks for the comment. I don’t consider myself photogenic in any sort of real way. Still, I like to think I can put an outfit together.
John, Wichita! Holy crap! God bless you for bringing your light to the near exact middle of the country. And in Kansas, no less.
Michael Grant, had I the means, I would have totally owned the Cooper Mini. (Not that I tried.) Bidding on nothing at all seems more my expertise, especially when they get down to the $100 or so range.
As for the Oscars, Danny found them online for $7.95 each, one for each of the three of us in our household who attended. I didn’t ‘win’ any of them. The A-Cat-emy Awards (their pun, not mine) was the theme of this year’s event. Our Oscars were merely accessories.
Again, had I had the means (and the forethought) we could have gotten one for everyone who attended (some 700 or so), for being “Best Supporting Supporter of Wayside Waifs.” I suppose.
Or, again, with forethought, had them available to sell as another money-raiser, as keepsakes of the evening. They may have been a ‘must buy,’ yes?
I second that, Rick. You can put together a mean outfit.
Love your choice of accessories. I was at the event but didn’t see you and wouldn’t have recognized you if I did. I stumbled over here in search of photos to post on my blog and recognized your site name from Blog Meridian’s site. The world keeps getting smaller. Peace.
I like your style, man.*
And I hope that one day soon you’ll post photos of Charlie and Tulle. (You’ve seen other ‘Flocker-pets, yes? You’ve checked out assorted Pets links via Who are we?)
This by way of a belated welcome to to clusterflock. I’m enjoying your posts — and, as I said, I like your style.
* Big Lebowski reference.
Thanks much, Sheila. (The ‘reference’ is much appreciated.)
I adore your posts and comments, things have stuck: “Ignernt.” “Don’t conk your head on the swingset, boy.” Many of the recent “y’all” comments, etc. Fabulous! I aspirated my flip-flops.
More later, OK?
