I too was abandoned by my mother, at age two when she divorced my father, won custody of me, but relinquished custody to a known violent person and abuser. Thruout my life I always wonder shy she did this, but never found an answer.
I wish you much success in attempting to get her to change her mind. If you need help, I have a Rabbi friend who travels to Israel often and may be of help to you.
In the meantime, I will pray for you and wish you the very best.
