BMW Reinvents the 2002, entry level coupe for the U.S.
I don’t love the styling, but I love the idea of a light-weight, two door from BMW with a twin turbo V-6 at entry-level (for a BMW) pricing.

Not to Talk About the Weather, but
For those of you in The Great State. Just want to take a moment to send my positive thoughts to those who’ve been deluged for so long. Let it be done!
It’s rained in KC, slowly, steadily since Wednesday night. We’re on the very Northern edge of this stalled front. I keep thinking it must move on soon.
After only three days, here, I can’t imagine what it’s been like for some of you.

Jason’s iPhone Review
After fiddling with it for an hour, I know how to work the iPhone better than the Nokia I had for the past 2 years, even though the Nokia has far less capabilities.

iPhone First Impressions
A good overview of using the iPhone that mirrors my impressions pretty closely.
Eudora Welty, Sunday School, Holiness Church. Jackson 1935-1936

This extraordinary picture is part of a travelling exhibit presently in Wichita (and headed to Kansas City this November) called “Passionate Observer: Eudora Welty Among Artists of the Thirties.”
More on the exhibit generally here, and one one image in particular here.
“It’s not news, it’s Fark.”
GM: But there’s also stuff on Fark that is news, right?
DC: We’re really just screwing around. People ask me all the time who our competitors are. We don’t have any, because we’re not trying to be the news. All the guys at sites with comparable traffic are trying to be the news—that’s the big difference.
I got one, too.
My first cell phone. Really. Now if only AT&T would activate it… but the site seems to be backed up, and tells me to wait for an email. Hope to be up and running tomorrow morning. (from Woolgathering…)

Be Careful, Mary
Oh Hell Yes!
I am officially blogging from my iPhone. I want to officially thank everyone in the clusterflock community for helping get me the coolest thing in 2007! I heart everyone of you!
dry mouth
It drives me to wince when people make those little smacky sounds when they talk. Do you know what I’m talking about? Old fuckers tend to do this a lot.

Partial List of People to Bleach
my date with density
I’d love to stay and chat, y’all?
But the little out-of-the-way AT&T store I was planning on strolling by this early evening? to pick out my iPhone on account of I figured it was so out of the way and so south Dallas? it would be as silent as a field of legless crickets? has ten to fifteen people standing outside already in a line when I called, y’all?
So fuck it?
I’m grabbing a lawn chair and heading south.
Pray for me.
Y’all.

Vertical farming proposal for cities
The idea is simple enough. Imagine a 30-storey building with glass walls, topped off with a huge solar panel. On each floor there would be giant planting beds, indoor fields in effect. There would be a sophisticated irrigation system. And so crops of all kinds and small livestock could all be grown in a controlled environment in the most urban of settings. That means there would be no shipping costs, and no pollution caused by moving produce around the country.

I think it’s very important to have art in the world. I am somebody who is not terribly impressed with people. The only thing which is really exceptional about humans is art; apart from that, we are animals.
Fred, the flightless Dodo
The remains of a dodo found in a cave beneath bamboo and tea plantations in Mauritius offer the best chance yet to learn about the extinct flightless bird, a scientist said on Friday.
“We know it’s a giant pigeon,” he added.
Freshly Minted
A few new words for the Clusterfolkmoot to incorporate into its chitchat, from Erin McKean’s workshop at FooCamp:
coprocranial ’shithead’ [Although this form seems more adjectival, so it might be better as 'shitheadedness'. Coined by Nat Torkington.]
ecomaniacal ‘crazy about money’. [Coined by Scott Berkun, except that everyone in the session was *sure* it meant 'crazy about the environment.']
Googlegänger ‘the other person who shows up in Google search results when people search for you’. [from Karl Fogel.]
ludevescant ‘evocative of a game; describing the feeling that someone is perhaps toying with you’. [From Latin ludus, 'game'.]
malignation ‘the state of being maligned’.
swassy ‘trying to look good while sweating profusely’. [Hard to do ...]
triggernometry ‘the mathematical calculation that leads heads of nations to start wars’.
