owl1.jpg

commonly known here as a ‘boopho’, it fell out of its hole in the wall, and watched a gathering crowd, seemingly unconcerned. So we got a ladder out and returned it.

How splendid to have been granted another look at this little creature. It does resemble the owl on the Athenian tetradrachma, but the clear light of day reveals — what? — a hint of something more Ionian in its expression?

I’m glad you returned it to its niche.

“Though we have broken their statues,
though we have driven them out of their temples,
the god did not die because of this at all.”
