It’s time to do something. What are you going to do?

I just sent this to everyone I know. What are you going to do?

Hi Everybody,

It’s time to do something.

As you know, the President used his authority to commute Scooter Libby’s sentence for obstructing an investigation into his administration a few days ago.

This is the first time in the history of our country that a President has used his authority to commute the sentence of an individual who obstructed an investigation into his administration.

In framing the constitution James Madison argued that using presidential authority to pardon those who had committed a crime advised by that president is an impeachable offense.

It is time to make your voice heard.

Silent frustration is no longer an option.

You have to act.

If you don’t know how to find your congresspeople, you can find out here:

http://www.house.gov/writerep/

If you aren’t up to speed on what’s going on, this is a good overview:

http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/11339.html

If you run into people who say “all Presidents pardon people, what’s the big deal?” or “this was a political witch hunt.” or “Libby didn’t really commit a crime.” you can see why those arguments are incomplete here:

http://www.clusterflock.org/2007/07/as_clearly_as_it_can_be_said.html

The bottom line is the President has given up his authority to lead this country, but until we speak, he has 16 more months to act without regard for the constitution, the law, international or national opinion, or even common decency.

Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House, and can begin the process that brings articles of impeachment against the President and Vice President.

Her number is:

202-225-4965

Harry Reid can support her in the Senate. His number is:

202-224-3542

Here’s the number to the White House:

202-456-1111

If you’re not furious enough at this point to speak up, I respectfully suggest you aren’t paying attention. If you haven’t had time to pay attention, it is time to. If you think you can’t do anything by yourself, you’re wrong, doing nothing has allowed this President to aggressively subvert the rule of law and undermine the integrity of this country and its constitution.

You can change that.

In a democracy, it is incumbent upon each citizen to speak out, to act, to make his or her voice heard.

So far, I can’t hear you, but you have a beautiful voice.

Speak up. Act. Do something.

Deron

Called Reid and Pelosi so far. It felt good. Now I’m going to write some letters.

Me too. I also called Pete Sessions, Kay Bailey, and John Cornyn. That felt good, but in a different way.

I know what you mean about “a different way.” I still haven’t worked myself up to calling the White House. It just seems sort of like calling to tell Atilla the Hun that you think he’s mean and ought to quit that. But I think much may be done by way of persistence when it comes to speaking out. Sometimes just body count at a meeting begins to make its own undeniable point.

That’s the way it felt. And just speaking the words, out loud, to a human, felt good.

“What are you going to do?”

Well, in my case, I will unsubscribe immediately. I’m kind of tired of these articles, which is my fault and nobody else’s.

As important as you guys think this is, for some of us in a different continent it’s not even news.

I know the fault is mine, by the way. I shouldn’t have assumed anything when I subscribed to the RSS feed. I misunderstood the point of the blog and there’s noone to blame but me.

    Eduo,

If it makes you feel better I also blame you. What the blame is I’m not sure, but I want to repeat myself and let you know that I support you in blaming yourself. Now, I don’t want this solidarity to be misconstrued as something political, which clearly should have no place here in Clusterflock because we all know that just isn’t cool.

Again, to repeat, I have no one to blame but you,

    Jones
