I think it is a sign of insects evolving rapidly, maybe there is a core spider species that is organizing the other spiders into this type of behavior. Note, when insects become conscious, we are all doomed.

I examined the far larger web event in McBride, BC Canada. Same kind of thing: major dragline display without ballooning conditions. Web will disappear after repeated freezing: becomes very brittle.
