Oh, yes! Reminds me of a tuber resembling Richard Nixon that was spotlighted years ago in “Our Own Oddities”, a regional “Believe It or Not” feature that appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
. . . and while we’re on the topic of tubers . . . Mr. Potato Head was an unlikely enough toy back in the Wayback Days when you inserted the plastic features into a real potato, but the inclusion of a plastic potato in the Potato Head set makes my head reel. Surely it must seem extremely odd to anyone unfamiliar with the toy’s vegetable origins.
(Don’t even get me started on The Game of Cootie and the stylistic evolution of the plastic cooties.)
