Thanks, fellas. Here’s a little valentine from me — on behalf of ‘flockers and friends — from Destry Rides Again. (Is it quittin’ time yet?)

Allow me to chime in, too! Congrats, thanks and whoopee! Fun videos: love the cowboy boots in Sheila’s selection, the fur coat in Elizabeth’s.

Now I see where Madeline Kahn got her inspiration:

Aw thanks Sheila. It was nothing.

I wish I had a clip of the time a librarian who used to work for me translated “Wild Thing” into German and serenaded me with it in her perfect Marlene Dietrich voice. She was drunk, of course. I only hire good people.

Don’t sell yourself short, Patrick. You and Chris did the serious leg work. I just mopped up.

…and thanks a bunch, Sheila. You’ll be drinking neat bourbon, I’ll have you know.

I am reminded by Elizabeth’s post of a fun fact to know and tell: I actually saw Marlene Dietrich in performance in Dallas, Texas! 1973, or more likely 1974 it was — in a theater/nightclub/cocktail lounge at the Fairmont Hotel. It must have been her last performance tour; she moved scarcely at all, having recently tumbled off a stage somewhere and broken a leg. But she was wonderful — displayed a deliciously dry wit.

Have any of y’all seen Maximillian Schell’s wonderful documentary Marlene? It’s a splendid example of how an artist (director Schell) can deal with limitations — at the eleventh hour, Dietrich refused to be filmed!

Oh . . . and for the record, I want an outfit like Dietrich’s Destry get-up in the worst possible way.

Anyways, meet you down at the end of the bar, boys (and all of y’all). And neat bourbon will be just dandy, Andrew.
