iTunes by the Numbers

I picked up this game from my friend Cynthia “Cindy” Closkey—who may be referred to by y’all as that other Cindy.

Total Length
7803 items, 19:23:55:16 total time, 31.50 GB (ah, so that’s what’s taking up all my hard drive space; a lot of this is podcasts and audiobooks, though)

First and Last Songs (by title)
“A.M. Slow Golden Hit,” Hotel Lights (No idea what this song is; it’s from the SXSW 2006 Showcase, which I’m still sorting through to see what’s worth keeping. Played once.)
“?,” The Mommyheads, from Bingham’s Hole (this is the album’s hidden track, I assume)

Shortest and Longest Songs
Once I deleted all the junk at either end (interrupted downloads, broken tracks, streams, and the like):
“Part 2: No. 42 Recitative, He That Dwelleth in Heaven” (0:15) by the Ambrosian Singers/Händel, The Messiah
“Something in the Way,” (20:36) Nirvana (same answer as Cindy had)

First and Last Albums (by title)
Abbey Road, The Beatles
2000, Mathieu Boogaerts

First and Last Artists
A-ha (!)
1986 (another barely-listened-to song from a SXSW Showcasing Artists set)

Top Five Most Played Songs
“Break,” Fugazi, End Hits
“Get Lucky,” Heatmiser, Mic City Sons
“All My Little Words,” Magnetic Fields, 69 Love Songs
“Red Vines,” Aimee Mann, Bachelor No. 2
“The Book of Love,” Magnetic Fields, 69 Love Songs

Search for the following words. How many songs show up?
Sex: 42 (most from Coop’s “Sexy Coffee Pot” collection)
Death: 73 (mostly Death Cab for Cutie)
Love: 338
You: 652
Home: 55
Boy: 172 (mostly Beastie, Soft, and Beach)
Girl: 103

First five songs that come up on Party Shuffle
I’ve been using Party Shuffle to sort through all the SXSW sampler songs that I’ve never rated, in an attempt to purge, so these are all from those compilations. Each has a play count of only 1, but apparently I didn’t hate them so much that I instantly hit “delete”:

“Chinese Phrasebook,” The Freak Accident
“Under the Radar Screen,” T-minus Band
“Mr. Milk,” Errors
“Red Drop,” The Standard
“I’ve been Lost,” +/–

Your turn.

So here’s what I want to know: Why don’t I have any AC/DC? That should be the first band, not fucking A-ha. Where did that track even come from???

This took awhile but it was fun. I think my results overestimate my interest in hip-hop - that’s recent but I do love me some Roots and some Devin the Dude. 18, white, suburban college sophomore. Imagine that.

    Total Length:
    5946 songs, 16.4 days, 33.34 gb

    First/Last:
First: “A.T.H.F.”, by Danger Doom, an artist(s) whose songs , I must admit, I think I’m going to delete (recommended by some 20-something kid who’s into “underground hip-hop”— but this stuff is just awful). The next on the list is Nirvana’s “About a Girl,” which I can live with.
Last: “333333333″, by the A-Frames, a song about a “fatal error” in computer code. Last “alphabetical song” is “Zombie Dance” by the Cramps.

    Shortest/Longest actual songs:
0:15, “All of Us,” by Pat Metheny and Ornette Coleman, from “Song X.”
27:29, “Thinkin’ Some More,” the Cheater Slicks

I only have 2 songs with the word “Sex” or “Sex” in the title….

But I have 4 versions by 4 different artists of “That’s How Strong My Love Is”..

The most versions of one song by different artists is “The Christmas Song” (11), by: Brave Combo, The Drifters, Ella Fitzgerald, the George Shearing Quintet, Jimmy Smith, Nat King Cole, James Brown, the Arthur Blythe Quartet, Carmen McRae, Mel Torme, and The Wailers (the Spokane garage band, not Bob Marley’s band).
