Pronunciation

From the comments: Andrew Simone

If by Missouri you mean Missoura, then yes.

Quick tips if you’re in the neighborhood of NE Ark:

If the word ends in “a” say “ee”
If the word ends in “i” (or “y”) say “uh”

Example:
“Naomuh and Wynonee Judd lack to drahve Toe-yotees.”

I think it’s pretty much a requirement that you like to eat beans and cornbread as well. Or biscuits and gravy.

When I was seven or so, we were visiting the folks in Arkansas. I left a note letting Mom and Grandmother know where we went. With my Northern accent I wrote, “We’re across the field at Aunt Zoomie’s.” When Mom read it later, I thought we were going to have to take her to Lawrence Memorial in Walnut Ridge, she was laughing so hard she was wheezing, tears were spraying from her eyes.

I asked “Well, how DO you spell it?”

    “Z-U-M-A”

(Aunt Zoomie was Uncle Wob’s wife.)

(I’ve have an Aunt Dorie, too.)

Uh-oh. Michael’s last comment is about to send me over the drumset. We need to develop a handbook for new flockers, including information that posts containing misplaced apostrophes, anything about harming squirrels, or criticism of Richard Dawkins could result in an unseemly torrent of mean words.

Sheila, India, the original Michael–let’s write that handbook. It would likely be a handy guide to life in general, and maybe we could sell it and make lots of money and buy a farm somewhere where we’re all flockers, all the time. Or not.

I’m fixin’ to duck and cover.

Sorry, should have included quotes, that’s how my wife’s Grandma writes it, she’s from Missoura.

She gave us a cookbook once. Great reading.

Okay, don’t start on me, I realize that Michael can technically get away with “Dumplin’s” because the yankee word for dumplin has a g on the end of it. So I’m only part-way over the drumset. But that doesn’t change the need for the rule book, because we all know what can happen around here, and these news guys seem kind of sweet and unprepared for the hard stuff.

We do like the letter g.
