red and green band trailers

I think I remember this.

The MPAA’s Advertising Administration, which oversees the advertising materials used by its member studios, approves two types of trailers for use in the theaters. So-called green band trailers — also known as green-tag trailers — open with a green advisory card that reads “the following preview has been approved for all audiences.” Red band trailers, which can appear only before R-rated, NC-17-rated or unrated movies, warn that “the following preview has been approved for restricted audiences only.”

Turns out, though, that most chains only show the green band trailers, regardless of which audience they show them to. Regal Entertainment Group, which operates 6,388 screens in 39 states, will start showing the red band trailers before the appropriately rated movies.

Update: Speaking of the MPAA, has anyone seen This Film Is Not Yet Rated?

This Film is Not Yet Rated was almost frightening. Talk about socially accepted censorship by an arbitrary group of mysterious people.

I think the current administration is modeled after the MPAA.
