the comma
I donated blood yesterday and I really wanted one of those stickers that said, “Be nice to me, I survived the finger prick.”
It would have been fun to add one comma, “Be nice to me, I survived the finger, prick.”

Oh yeah, that would often be a very well-placed comma. And it should read–”I survived the stubby-needle-the-size-of-a-fucking-pencil, prick.” But, the orange juice is nice. Cindy gives blood all the time, in spite of having veins that roll all over the place. She comes home looking like somebody shot her in the arm.
The orange juice is nice. I always pretend I’m in the methadone clinic scene in Sid and Nancy.
I remember the “Be nice to me ..” stickers. They are long gone here in Toronto, in fact you can’t even get a sticker for a pint of blood anymore. Just a styrofoam cup of orange juice and an Oreo.
