For Alek and India
(and other owl fanciers). Lori Pickert’s comment on Deron’s Kottke interview led me to her Camp Creek blog.
This is the owl.
Check out the kids’ drawings here.

OH! MY! GOD! SO! CUTE!
Once you’ve recovered from admiring the little screech owl (I know — it took me a while), look at the first of the kids’ drawings and tell me whether it doesn’t remind you of Sendak’s Max in his wolf costume.
Yes I see the Sendak connection, Sheila. Some of the drawings also remind me of those done by the poet Kenneth Patchen. He did some great stuff.
Oh, yes, Daryl! I recognize the kinship with Patchen in some of these.
I’m sorry, I have eyes for nothing but the owl.
And he or she for you.
(in my pet baby talk voice) That is a sweet little baby!
Great drawings!
A Flickr photo pool based on Camp Creek art lessons also features some fine drawings. (Seven-year-old Gracie’s drawing of a stuffed bison at the Arch museum ["of Westward Expansion"] in St. Louis rocks!)
