People have distinct flavors and smells — not literally, but in my mind. One of my friends is strawberries and cinnamon; another is black coffee and pencil shavings. An ex-girlfriend was lemons and sandalwood.
The weirdest ones, for me, are the people who have no flavor or smell at all. These people creep me the hell out, because it’s like they’re not really there.

All of those sound like yummy friends. If you could choose your flavor/smell, what would you be?

I think black coffee and pencil shavings is pretty good.
I’m thinking something like orange flowers, mint, and lime.
Rosemary or cilantro; maybe cumin. Also, I like the green kind of Vitabath a lot. And it would be great to have that smell you encounter in Texas when it hasn’t rained for a long time in the summer and then big drops begin to fall on hot pavement–a kind of dusty smell mixed with water vapor.
shit yeah!
leather and oranges.
I’ve been told I smell like a clove-studded orange; I’m content to stick with that.
This is hard for me, because I love many smells. I think I’d like to smell like an old, empty theater. Or maybe a grapefruit.
the tears of a clown a butterfly’s fart.
Deron, I’ve told you I’ve always thought you smelled like cumin. I wonder if part of my attraction to you was my love of Mexican food.
I’d like to smell like freshly baked bread, vanilla, or bergamot.
Amy, do Deron’s fingernail people smell like cumin as well? Anything else you’d like to share about your relationship with them?
I feel violated by ten little strangers every time he touches me. Why can’t we ever be alone? It’s always a god dammed crowd!
It might help if you got to know them as individuals. Maybe set aside special ‘date nights’ — just for you and one of the fingernail people.
bookpages. Or rosemary and lavender, either way.
a faint mix of a men’s swimming pool locker room–wet towels, soap, chlorine–and crayons. I’d taste like cilantro.
Well I have changed my mind–or rather I have added a good smell to it: I would not at all mind smelling like toasted pine nuts. Pesto smells good too! I realize now that I am gradually making myself more and more edible. Not a bad ambition, I must say.
