Lena: Gazing. Grooming. Hunting.

Entonces, people . . .

For a while now I’ve been meaning to pose a “Dear clusterflock” question that I continually forget, but a message from Alek Lindus called it to mind.

Bear with me now. This may take a little explaining.

solitary bees, 51

It is darker now. The light is on on the night stand beside her. She is scraping the last of vanilla ice cream from a bowl. There is a raspberry left in there she picks out and plops into her mouth.

You know, I’ve been trying to think if I remember seeing you come into the shop or even around town.

He has his hands on the arms of his chair and has been staring straight ahead. He looks over at her.

I mean, I keep racking my brain trying to think of when I might have seen you. Surely an individual as fucked up as you would have made a greater impression on me. But nothing. Blank slate. It’s like you must have been invisible.

He gets up and walks over to her. He holds out his hand.

He-Man and the Masters of the Univers

Chris is debating whether to make this t-shirt. My vote is hell yes.

I swear it wasn’t me

Police in Colorado are looking for two men who robbed a convenience store wearing thongs as their disguises.

Each thong barely covered the man’s nose, mouth and chin and left the rest of his face exposed. The suspects also wore T-shirts and pants and were described as in their 20s. One had a left arm tattoo.

111 Nations Approve clusterflock Treaty

Dublin, Ireland — A controversial agreement limiting the deployment of clusterflock was reached Friday.

The talks were boycotted by the governments of Russia, China, Israel, India, Pakistan and the United States.

“We can’t take a chance that an innocent person could stumble upon an unopened post or link,” said Norwegian representative Hans Lars-Erik Olof.

An unnamed clusterflock bomblet producer did not reply to emails pertaining to the treaty.

Your Debut Album

Struan from Vitamin Briefcase pointed us to shootingelephants’ debut album post.

Here’s how it works.

1 - Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

If you want to do this again, you’ll hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.

3 - Go to flickr’s “explore the last seven days” http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that’s your debut album.

Leave yours in comments please. You’ll have to link to the image.

Utah Phillips, 1935-2008

Photo of Utah Phillips by Steven Stone.

U. Utah Phillips, 73, a Grammy-nominated folk singer, rabble-rouser and anarchist whose wild white beard recalled his years as a tramp, died of heart disease May 23 at his home in Nevada City, Calif.

Mr. Phillips, over four decades on the road, combined storytelling with song, describing the plight of the working class, the power of labor unions and the necessity of direct action. He dubbed himself the “Golden Voice of the Great Southwest,” but, like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, his words, more than his baritone voice, carried authority. He had been a soldier, a railroader, a state archivist, a union organizer, founder of a homeless shelter and homeless himself.

Alphonso Bow

Friend of clusterflock, Mike Sarki, writes:

Filming is complete on my screenplay Alphonso Bow. The film stars Jeffrey Pierce and Michael Dempsey with a supporting cast including Kate Rodger and Kasey Buckley. The film is produced by Nut Bucket Films, directed by my son, Lije Sarki. It has been exciting reviewing raw footage of the film. It is currently in the hands of our film editor. Another interesting note is our archival music score being arranged, interpreted, and performed by Jason Sebastian Russo of Hopewell fame. Our director of photography is the talented Dan Coplan.

Bush Outs Plame

Um, Scott McClellan is claiming that President Bush authorized and admitted authorizing outing Valerie Plame. Shouldn’t that mean something? Like in the real world?

Update:
Okay, I re-read the article and the headline implies that Bush okayed outing Plame, but the body of the article references Bush’s okay to leak the National Intelligence Estimate. Unless I’m missing something, completely different things.

Just Finished: First Three Books in my Summer Stack

All through the year I add novels, collections of stories and poems, memoirs–all kinds of books–to my stack of summer reading, and I have just made the first small dent in it: Philip Roth’s Everyman; Thomas Cobb’s Shavetail; and Paulette Jiles’s Enemy Women.

a brief history of stonehenge

As if Nigel’s theories weren’t enough, recent studies of Stonehenge suggest a large settlement surrounded the monument and perhaps select individuals were buried there.

“I don’t think it was the common people getting buried at Stonehenge — it was clearly a special place at that time. One has to assume anyone buried there had some good credentials.”

Nigel Tufnel, the Stonehenge Interview, Part 1

To promote its upcoming movie on Stonehenge, the National Geographic Channel composed a series of interviews with Nigel Tufnel of This Is Spinal Tap. The other four videos are available on the National Geographic website.
