Incidents of Travel, 2
- First gas tank of trip: Duncanville to Claude, Texas–approximately 31 mpg
- Second gas tank of trip: Claude, Texas, to Colorado City, Colorado–approximately 30 mpg (fighting a lot of wind)
- Hwy 87 west of Clayton, NM: 10 miles of “construction zone” where the speed limit is either 45 or 55, even though no construction is going on in 95% of the “zone”: very irritating

I am suddenly interested in MPG because I am looking at a 2008 Prius to replace my hunk of shit Dodge Charger RT which specializes in warping its own brakes, randomly honking horns, and taking 7 seconds to start because the starter likes to turn over like a 1970 Vega.
So, what car do you drive that got those mileage figures?
Don’t you hate people who want to ask a simple question but before doing so preface it with some stupid personal anecdote? I do.
Since Our Man on the Road is on the road right now, I’ll jump in here. Cooper drives a Honda Element, as I do. I’ve had mine for nearly three years now, and I’ve enjoyed the same long-haul highway mpg as he’s getting. Twenty-six mpg is the norm for daily use, which in my case encompasses the usual inconveniences.
It accelerates and corners far better than you’d think such a box-shaped object would. And I’m continually amazed at the amount of cargo that I can cram into it.
It’s the counterpoint to Our Other Car, a supercharged 350Z.
(Oh, and yes, I do hate it when people preface a question with a stupid anecdote, but yours wasn’t stupid. And it got funnier when you revised it as a post.)
