My Scoot

Mine is the furthest left.

My Scooter is the one on the furthest left. Two other fellows I work with also both recently bought scooters and we all rode home together like some sort of biker gang. It was as fun as it was silly. To avoid taking a U-turn about a mile down the road we zipped over the hill seen at the other end of the parking lot.

What kind of scooter is yours? I’m in the market. Next month I’m taking a Basic Motorcycle Rider’s course so I can get my motorcycle license, required in Iowa to ride scooters bigger than 50cc. I don’t know much about scooters, but I’ve been drooling over the three-wheeled freak that is the Piaggio MP3; unfortunately I’m pretty sure it’s out of my price range.

Yeah, the Piaggio is fantastic and I may get one in the future. The scooter I own is a 49cc Aprilia SR 50 Factory I have topped it out at 48mph and it claims to get 100mpg. I haven’t owned it long enough to really judge the actual/practical mpg but it couldn’t be less than 80.

I love it and in Missouri you don’t need an M-Class license, plates, or insurance on 49cc bikes because of outdated laws on mopeds.

The only trouble with 49cc Scoots is they can have a problem with acceleration on big hills unless you go with a manual, like the Bajaj all the way on the right, but then you may sacrifice some speed.

Once thing you should consider, Jordan, is how much you will ride it. The savings on gas may pay for the scooter even if it seems out of your price range initially.

I somehow missed that you were back in MO, Andrew. My excellent friend Kate (whom I’ve mentioned here before) lives in St. Louis and scoots to and from her job as leader of the Ethical Society. Do look out for her; I think you guys would have a lot to talk about—scootering’s just for starters. She should be easy to spot, especially when she’s riding:

I am a small person and I have a very large helmet (I value my skull), so if you stuck a broom on the top I’d look just like Marvin the Martian. (St. Louis Magazine)

It happened in a flash, India, sometime in February that I moved back to MO.

I will definitely keep my eye out. I know exactly where the ethical society is and pass by it a fair amount for work (although, given the new job, that will change). Also, funny that you should link to St. Louis Mag. I was talking to them for awhile about working there but it never panned out.
