rear-wheel drive luxury
As car aficionados know, asking the front wheels to handle steering and distribution of power is counter productive. As bean counters know, rear-wheel drive is expensive. So we’re left with a shit-eating dilemma. If you want a car that handles well, you shell out a lot of money for an up-market car or go dumpster diving in the trash heap of former luxury.
Rumor has it Toyota and Subaru are teaming to bring an affordable rear-wheel drive car to the masses and BMW just came out with its 1 series that, though still steep (the 135i, for instance, starts in the mid 30s) will eventually become affordable on the used market.
Oh how I yearn for the old days when $7,500 would buy you a vehicle a lot of owners couldn’t drive home without wrapping around a tree.
