Three stages of clothing

I’m interested in the process by which clothes go from being special occasion clothes, to good / nice clothes, to clothes in which you lounge around the house. I find I’m only really comfortable with a piece of clothing when it is in the final stage.

This fits loosely with a level of comfort I’ve achieved on camping trips by dressing as closely as possible to how I would dress at home. Jeans and t-shirt, a good pair of running shoes.

Of course, this outfit is deadly if you end up in wet weather, as cotton, when wet, is not insulative. You’ll stay warmer, in fact, wearing nothing than you will in jeans and t-shirt that have been soaked.

Regardless, I make sure I have the appropriate rain gear and add a few layers of thermal in case it’s needed, then set out, as comfortable as I am at home.

I feel less of a distance between my regular life and a trek through the outdoors this way, and it makes an outing or getaway seem more possible somehow.
