By the way,

the red-winged blackbirds are fierce this nesting season. Saw one drive off a red-tailed hawk by harrying and dive-bombing it.

Around here it’s crows mobbing an owl or blue jays ganging up on a red-tail. The hounders seem to know the moment of their advantage–like the short boxer who gets inside the gangly boxer’s reach and delivers the uppercut. God help the crow or jay, though, winging its way home drunk and alone after a party.
