The contemplation of very large and distant things — such as stars and galaxies.

One perspective on ‘what helps’, together with some practical wisdom, may be found on the ToDo Institute site. I’ve mentioned these folks before, and while I’m not completely down with all aspects of their take on things, I must say I find it more helpful than psychotherapy or drugs.

Many Thanks: The Revolutionary Practice of Gratitude” by Gregg Krech (from the December 2004 issue of The Sun) gives a sense of what this is all about.

    fresh air…

do you know where I can find some?

Out here in the northwesternmost corner of Illinois, we’ve got lots of fresh air. It’s one of our principal resources.

Jobs are kind of scarce, though. Together with what (from a Chicago point of view) I’d consider ‘culture’. The usual trade-off.

A very much slightly over-romanticised view.

Knowing that once this doomsday project is complete, it will all be over.

Peace and quiet and a nice cup of tea.

Oh, and thick and sticky goat urine.

that Vodka that Kathy mentions [and some more]

a last glance at the essence of a place before it bites the dust

    cicadas by the Big Pond

the fact that everything is on a smaller scale here but reaches more time

o and realising that time is not linear at all

Regarding my take on what helps, here’s the plan: sipping a nice vodka, I reflect back to the 80’s on my life with Michael-Grant Smith. If I post this on clusterflock, I’ll get his goat.

    That helps.

Walking the dog down the interstate, to a lake three states over. Or, imagining that process so completely, and in such poignant detail, as to not do it and instead run straight away to the person you most love–as if a great homecoming has just occurred.

Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate.

And the night view of the city skyline from my roof.

  23. Dave Vogt on June 30th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
