Houston is one of the most underrated cities in the U.S. The diversity of the people and support of the arts almost always outweigh the backroom horrors of the megachurch and energy industries.
It was a bit cold. My welsh is poor, and my Irish is even worse, so I kept saying “bore da” instead of “dia dhuit ar maidin”, and praying that someone would hear me.
Great shot! Love it…
Great shots PLURAL. The colors are unbelievable.
Love all these images, clashing as they do with my prejudices against Houston. And I am enchanted by Amy’s ’sabre dance’.
gracias!
I just told Cindy: other than the humidity and “I’m going to kill you with my truck” I really enjoyed Houston.
I like having my expectations and prejudices confounded! Thank you.

not to mention the steaming ‘underbelly’ of the middle eastern (and polynesian) dance community.
Any city that has three Persian restaurants can’t be bad.
Really, if I could survive the summers in Houston, I’d be happy to live there. But I can’t breathe in that city.
If I lived in Houston, I’d visit the Rothko Chapel every day.
Oh, and great photos, Deron. Amy, you are stunningly beautiful!
Yes, Cindy. I do find Houston suffocating, atmospherically speaking. I have a great tolerance for heat, but humidity depresses my soul.
But if Amy were dancing there, it would just about be worth it. Yes. She is beautiful. I hope some day to see her in motion.
There’s probably about 10 Persian restaurants on the west side of town. Chelo kebab coming out of your culito.
These photos are great. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, is the phrase “decent convenient store” the standard moniker for Persian-owned convenience stores in Houston — as it is in Chicago?
The next to last shot–Amy–is especially stunning.
Houston is the finest city I’ve encountered. And I’ve been as far as Iowa.
How did you like Dublin?

Houston, we have a problem…
colours stunning, Deron
