LMCC Open Studios last Thursday

Here’s an image from the LMCC Swing Space Open Studios last Friday. Francisca Caporali and I were awarded a Swing Space back in March and just finished up our project for the wine and snacks event. Pictured here was our interactive explosions on the windows at 120 Broadway. Viewers were invited to place explosions on the windows in order to make it look like NYC was being destroyed. We also created 3 videos where painted images of destruction were superimposed on video shot in the city. I will have links to those videos one day.

It’s always good to see what you are up to, Mary, and it never fails to be captivating. I love the idea of inviting people to “place explosions on windows”; I imagine the tension produced by that activity brought the end of Fight Club to mind!

Thanks Barry and Daryl. I was surprised and elated to find out that visitors were keen to place the explosions. I was worried that it would have been seen as too adventurous or in poor taste. Granted, I’m not afraid of poor taste, but I did have my concerns about being mocked and ridiculed on the basis of this idea. The true collaboration is the videos- I promise to show them soon. This was merely a placeholder sideline project for those.
