Skunk Kit

As we’ve had a cat under glass and a feral bunny today, I reckon I may as well toss in this shot of one of the three skunk kits who frisk and gambol out back of our place.

    Skunks have such great hair.

They do, indeed. Can’t say I’m enamored of their signature scent, but aside from that, they are beautiful creatures.

Strangely, I kind of like the smell of skunks. I’ve never been sprayed directly (which is, I understand, almost unbearable). But when I encounter the odor, say, on the highway, I find it rather of pleasant. I’m not sure what that says about me.

Well, you know, I don’t find it disturbing when it is dissipated over a wide out-of-doors area — but we once had one who made a nest under another house of ours and sprayed into vents leading inward. That is something that’ll make you reach for a gas mask. The first spray, and we woke up quite literally asphyxiating!

I wonder do the Demeter fragrance people manufacture a skunk scent. If they do, CIndy, I’ll buy you an ounce.

Sorry. No Skunk. They do offer a Stable fragrance. Alek might like that.

Why, thank you, Sheilababy. You’re a sweetie pie.

    that’s lovely.

Stable cologne? Someone really sells that? Nothing smells as sweet as horse sweat. Or breath.

Oh, yes. The Demeter site is down just now for some reason, but you can find their scents elsewhere, and they do sell a Stable fragrance.

As well as ‘Redhead in Bed’. (Whether with or without a goat, I don’t know. Maybe you could mix and match.)

Redhead in Bed is in the Happy Hour Collection, and according to the recipe on the label, calls for gin, strawberry and lemon. Smells like a strawberry lollipop dissolved in gin. Remind me never to order one of these in a bar. Between the Sheets, also from the Happy Hour Collection, is more palatable: a blend of exotic fruits (mango, guava & passion fruit) with rum, orange and lemon. This one isn’t nearly as sweet as it sounds — the citrus cuts some of the sugar — but it does get more candied as it dries down. I’m guessing these would be most likely to appeal to someone who likes the cocktails in question. I’m a vodka gimlet type myself.

I might point out that I do not smell “like a strawberry lollipop dissolved in gin” in or out of bed, with or without a goat.

If I wasn’t stuck in an office I’d be frisking and gamboling to my hearts content. Skunks are soooooo cute.
