Why should this make me think of Robert Bly’s “The Teeth-Mother Naked at Last,” written in protest of the Vietnam War, in which he claims at one point that “the president” (presumably Johnson, but maybe also Nixon) lies because he wants to die, an interesting psychological leap.

I’ve not read the Bly poem. That is curious. I’ll have to track it down.
