Sounds less like a deal than a defense strategy, for when the inevitable industry-wide class action suits against 2-year contracts and locked phones start rolling in: "Oh no, we OFFERED an un-subsidized phone, but there was no MARKET DEMAND..." Hmm. I wonder what the early cancellation fee on their contracts is; surely not $400.
