leash your fish

30 catfish walk through a South Florida neighborhood.

“I was, like, ‘No way, there’s fish in the street.’ And I kept going further and further, seeing fish everywhere. In driveways. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Even though the slippery walking catfish are easy to catch, scientists say people should not try to save them because the fish are an invasive species that does harm to Florida’s ecosystem.

I’m heating up the pan and rummaging around for cornmeal as we speak. Pinellas Park isn’t that far, and they seem to be moving at a good clip. I worry that they won’t find their way up the elevator, but these are walking fish; I’m probably too quick to judge.

Just doing my part to help the Florida ecosystem.

Deron, it’s been more than twenty years since the image of a walking catfish last troubled my imagination.

I apologize most sincerely for sending you that link to the recent Pinky Diablo possum post.

I still can’t look at that possum photo without ‘feeling funny in my tummy’.

That’s one heck of a heap o’ possums, for sure.

Sheila: News flash–we have bought Pinky D’s art services for a full day. For a fixed amount of $ and a sumptuous lunch he will spend a day making art for us (or anybody who similarly commissions his services). He will do watercolors and drawings for us, and we also might ask him to help paint some backdrops for planned sock puppet theater films. We will post details of how it goes (after July 28th, which is the day).

That is brilliant, Daryl! Everything about it. You must feel like Cosimo de’ Medici.
