New website for designers reaching directors

The body of this post has been deleted. We don’t mind people promoting themselves, or even their products. We would prefer that if the Christopher Walken account is used for this purpose, some effort be made to engage the clusterflock audience and to come across as a person who values the site.

Copying and pasting marketing text isn’t what we would suggest.

Update: Savannah writes:

Hi there,

I’m Savannah, founder of veaux.org

I understand completely wanting to remove us due to the marketing of veaux. The last thing I would want is for people to feel that they are being bombarded with marketers or something that might seem like spam. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure what the protocol for blogging really meant. For that I really apologize. If I knew differently, I would have gone about it much differently.

Veaux is something that I created to want to help emerging artists become known in the marketplace and to connect with each other and get work in the process. It’s something I truly believe in and so does the veaux team. The team is very passionate to make Veaux a successful venue for these artists. I don’t want my mistake to take away from that.

If you look at the site and feel that it isn’t what clusterflock or any other blog site wants to post, I understand. If you like it, I would…well…we would like another chance.

My sincerest apologies,

Savannah

so, this post raises a few questions. Jason just wrote to mention he had been receiving marketing emails from veux.org for the last few weeks. I had as well. I hadn’t decided yet how I want to handle marketing materials from sites / companies that fall into the general clusterflock circle of interest.

I think I was leaning toward making a post saying I would consider posting marketing materials if I felt strongly enough about the product / company. I’m not sure yet how I feel about this post showing up here, so I figured I’d open it up for discussion.

I thought it was spam at first.

    technically, it is.

I think it raises interesting questions and I figured talking about it might be more useful, perhaps, than deleting it.

I’d nuke it. Undisclosed PR messages go against the spirit of the Walken account — specifically the “don’t be an idiot” part — and also the spirit of CF. Comes too close to sock puppetry and astroturfing for comfort.

If you’re set on leaving the post up for discussion purposes, maybe you could remove the link and not give them any Google juice.

What gets me is that they didn’t even try to make it sound genuine or interesting like the tone of the rest of the site. I would have been fine if somebody was legitimately enthusiastic about their project and wanted to talk/post about it via Christopher Walken. This, however, reeks of a cut & paste intern job.

I’m with Jason. It just cries out to be nuked.

Okay, it’s been nuked, with explanation.
