Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii

A New Zealand judge has removed custody of a nine year old girl from her parents so that her name — Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii — can be changed. A few others that got flagged:

Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter “and tragically, Violence,” he said.

Texans probably know of the late Ima Hogg. Of course, she surmounted the handicap her pappy laid on her with that name and grew up to become someone to admire.

I used to work with a guy called Ian Anal (pronounced An-Al). Apparently it was an old Orcadian name (Orkney Islands). I sure had a lot of fun at that guys expense.

I grew up (in Houston) believing that Ima Hog did have a sister named Ura Hog–but I see at the link that she only had brothers (none, apparently, named Ura). My parents will be flummoxed when I tell them.

Yeah, that was news to me, too. I do remember meeting ima hogg - in round rock, i think it was - back in the early seventies. I was impressed.
