TechCrunch Web Tablet Project

Tech Crunch is looking for folks to help out creating and producing an open source web tablet. The idea is to create a light weight interface much like the iPhone with WiFi that simply runs Firefox. I hope this works because if it does then it would legitimize blogs and the open source community in way they haven’t been yet.

“Simply” running Firefox isn’t the answer. The iPhone/ipod-touch tried that with Safari, and since they’ve opened it up a bit, it’s vastly better. Indeed, most of the applications I run are not Safari-based.
The artist’s impression looks good, though, and I’d be happy to help!
Sony has been working on a project like this for at least ten years, one of my friends was working on it when I visited him one day. I remember the words “Eudora light” being tossed around too.

That’s a weird thing to say. How exactly is a tablet device going to make blogs more legitimate or propel the open source community at all? That some folks have problems with taking blogs seriously has little to do with the mechanism of how they are displayed.
