Amanda Mae has the general idea, and as for the details, I leave those to your inflammable imagination.

Oh, and once he gets back, I'm thinking we might also be going out and stealing us a ladder. Borrowing. Not stealing. Sorry.

Well, folks, it's past midnight here in the Driftless Region, and Jon just went out to Wal-Mart to buy a Coleman lantern so he can go out onto the first green of the South Course and practice putting in the dead of night.

We know how to have fun here in the Midwest, you bet.

As a lass, Cindy played in a place that made her quit playing: too many balls hit all the way onto Mesa street. I, on the other hand, had an iron slip from my swing and hit a light fixture. Had to run. Had to bank-shot the car off the equipment shed.

I usually enjoy miniature golf. The last time I played however I was stung by a bee on the end of my ring finger and I think I called that bee something akin to a mother fucker. I may have have called it a coont too. I have been known to do so.

In any case I've been invited by that course to golf elsewhere.

On a more positive note - I have apparently satisfied a lifetime worth of volunteer commitments to the brownies, blue birds, girl scouts and 4-H. None have solicited my involvement since that tragic morning.

Silver lining indeed.

Few do. It seems more than a bit cruel. And really no fun at all.

Here's something else: it's as though one game is suddenly interrupted by another. There you are, whacking drives and hitting wedges, and then -- you're shooting pool. Which is more fun than putting, but you catch my drift. It kind of reminds me of the biathlon. Who thought that up? I know: hunters who live in wintry corners of the world is what. But in both instances it seems you've got to switch abruptly from one physical mode to another, and in my experience that's not a hell of a lot of fun.
