Comments on Commercials
- The TV ads in which a Chevy at a gas station is sabotaged by the pump hose were made by people who are much better at what they do than GM is.
- Every time I see the ExxonMobil commercial, in which a man with a short gray beard is suddenly buying mosquito nets for everybody in Africa (which is a good cause), I think of the mob giving money to the Catholic Church.
- When I see a John McCain commercial, I can’t imagine who wouldn’t think that it was a call to look for a person missing from a home.

The ads for the McDonald’s Chicken sandwich are all miserable and misleading.
The little blond kid for Kaiser is hysterical and wonderful both.
I’ve been snickering for a while at the pasta-from-Pizza-Hut commercials.
Over THREE POUNDS of restaurant-quality pasta!
First, has American cuisine descended to the point where we’re measuring it in bulk? Since when has anyone ordered anything from any chain restaurant and thought, gee, I didn’t get enough.
Second: Is “restaurant-quality” the new “homestyle”?
hi. I’d like to make an announcement. I didn’t actually make the pizza. we ordered it from pizza hut.
Remember when there used to be so-called “Truth in Advertising” laws?
“homemade-tasting biscuit”
I’m enjoying a couple of the olympic commercials with misplaced soundtracks.
One has The Decemberists’ The Crane Wife — a song loosely interpreted to being about not being too ambitious.
The other is Sia’s Breathe Me which is mostly about being frail and needing help.
I smile whenever I see either one.
