The Frat Pack (Ben Stiller, The Wilson Brothers, Vince Vaughn, etc….) vs. The Apatow People (Judd, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, etc….)

    Apatow. Easy.

That’s even assuming that Will Ferrell, who has worked multiple times with Judd Apatow, is being included in the “etc.” of the Frat Pack.

Ben Stiller has also guested on multiple Apatow projects.

    Anyone seen Pineapple Express?

this seems somewhat generational. I’m surprised to find myself wondering who all the whippersnappers are.

I am going Frat pack. I actually feel the same as Deron but a little closer to the divide, perhaps.

Apatow–are these the Freaks and Geeks people? I recognize some of them from that show, which I have on dvd. It was only on one season.

Apatow easy, because of Freaks and Geeks.

I would simply like to say that I know who Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen are.

I’m down with the young jive, yo.

This is going to make NO sense whatsoever, but I think the reason that I’m on Team Apatow is because I find the Frat Pack to be “crude”. This is AFTER I’ve seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall, where, if you are not prepared for it (and I totally wasn’t) and you’re at the Drive-In with it’s five hundred foot screen, which I totally was, the sight of Jason Segel’s schlong can be quite…QUITE. Maybe the Frat Pack is crude-ER? I don’t know. All I know is I prefer the Apatow Apaches.

(And I just had to go back and correct all my mis-typings of “Frat Pack” as “Fart Pack”, so there you go.)

Thanks for all the responses… This was to settle a disagreement between myself and the wife. She’s pro-apatow and I’m a frat packer.

Eh, Vin? Did you and your wife settle your disagreement?

Sadly, no. We’re going to agree to disagree on this one.

I’m not sure if the Frat Pack are really a discrete unit the same way the Apatow gang seem to be. The Apatow movies are (so far) either written/produced by Apatow or written by the star (Rogen, Segel etc). They have more of a claim to being auteurs, owning the comedy. Stiller, Vaughn, Ferrell; they’re just actors for the most part. They haven’t posed a real change to comedy in the 21st century. In fact, a lot of what they’ve done is downright mainstream crap.

Overall, I prefer the Apatow stuff. Except for Anchorman, which is poison.
