Mary Carillo is Wonderful

Olympic Commenter Mary Carillo is sort of saucy and wonderful.

She has also long been known for her quick wit and pointed sense of humor. During her playing days, she was once asked whether she thought Renée Richards, a transsexual, should be allowed to play on the women’s pro tour. “I don’t see what all the fuss is about,” Carillo said. “So what if she’s Jewish?”

Regardless, I’m still mad at her for talking over Bjork’s Oceania performance in Athens.

Isn’t this the same idiot who asked the Chinese scientist last night if he’d ever tried using “Whitman’s Samplers” to entice pandas to breed (really)?

Sorry. Acting like an insensitive and uninformed dolt only works for sitting presidents in my book.

    Well - and for me.

NBC needs to get rid of Mary Carillo. Her spot of Chinese food was embarrassing and stupid. It screams, “hey white people, look how weird the Chinese are!”

Mary Carillo is a breath of summer happiness and good reporting on the Bejing scene. Her producer, director and the NBC Olympic higher ups deserve our thanks.

    More of Mary this week!

Oh, Kittentits, you’re fine–as long as you don’t start in on 19th century novels.

I was not aware of the endless outpouring of rage this poor woman would inspire, nor of her many and varied crimes against The Americane Publick!

Also, I must admit, the silly Whitman’s Sampler comment is so out of the blue, it sounds hilarious. I mean, if she said See’s, that wouldn’t be funny. But a Whitman’s Sampler, c’mon.
