one more

Perhaps this will settle the disagreement.

They are putting the second coat of semi-gloss on today.

    who won?

Daryl. I thought you’d go with the unstained version. All depends on your furniture, of course–and your animals.

I want to scoop up that floor and put it on toast.

yes, the animals are a big consideration. also we’ve gone with a palette of whites for the rest of the house and wanted to ‘ground’ the floors a bit. the goal, also, is to add one or two hits of vibrant color to each room, an orange espresso maker in the kitchen, or some sixties vinyl furniture mixed with stickley in the sitting room.

Great setting for those glassed-in bookcases.

    Tasty. Underlying the stain–pine? Oak?

Well, for a single-color sanded and sealed hardwood floor with a lot of gloss and depth it’s okay I guess.

The sheet of plywood on the hearth helps define the room. It’s angular, yet organic. It says “I could be cut and assembled into something useful but I choose not to be.”

I love the way you and Amy think. Vinyl and Stickley! If anyone can get that right, y’all can. I can almost see it now. Bring more pictures when things are in place, OK?

thanks, Rick. it’s always been my feeling that mid-century modernism grew out of the craftsman movement in the twenties. why can’t chrome frame vinyl chairs harmonize with a stickley couch?

Mike, they’re pine, and even though the stain is dark, I”m amazed how much grain shines through. really beautiful. we’ve put a lot of time and effort into this house. it’s amazing to see how beautiful is is now. I’ll take a walkthrough of pictures once we get everything in place.
