Damn Fine Coffee
I was in Seattle for five days, and made my way out to foggy Snoqualmie Falls to see the places where Twin Peaks was filmed. I saw the falls and looked around for any stray owls winging their way through the misty trees. There was too many people to really pretend that perhaps it was 1989, and almost everything had changed. But I was still so very happy. Here’s a picture I took of the cherry pie and damn fine cup of coffee I ate at the Double R Diner. Norma and Shelley weren’t working.

Dang Amanda. I don’t know what exactly you did with this picture but it sure enough kicks the SHIT out of my Firefox. You have some skunkware attached to that bad girl?
It’s just enormous…1.7 megs. All the saturated fat in that pie isn’t helping.
[Update: Amanda, I substituted the low-fat version of your pie pic. I hope you can't taste the difference.]
Soooorrrry. I use the internet real good sometime.
I want that pie. I can’t remember the last time I had a piece of pie in a diner.
Mmmm. Pie.
Ah - that’s better. I think I like the idea behind this trip. Any more details coming?
I’m not sure what else to say about it really. I adore Twin Peaks. I have for years, and when I found out I’d be near Snoqualmie, I knew I had to go. It was almost sad though. I didn’t get to see the log where they found Laura Palmer’s body since it was on Bainbridge Island. Later, as I perused a back wall filled with Twin Peaks gear, it turned out that the original Diner had burned down. And the great Northern Hotel had been renovated. I was almost twenty years too late to really see Twin Peaks for what it was, for how it was. But I watched the water pour over the falls, and I could hear the theme even then. I looked for owls, but saw nothing. When I got home, someone asked me if I had walked into the woods at night, and no, I hadn’t. It was morning when we were there.
I love diner coffee. It’s straight, run-of-the-mill coffee most of the time, but it always tastes comforting and holding those small, chubby mugs feels so satisfying.
