“I can Photoshop a zit off someone’s face,” she said. “I can’t Photoshop the Virgin Mary onto a grape.”

We had a spell about 20 years ago, where people were seeing the statues in grottos that are dotted around the country, move. They swore by it. The statues moved. So people came, flocked indeed, around these grottos, and sat, and stared. Sang hymns. Said novenas. For days. Weeks. It was all anybody could talk about. The moving statues.

I saw a the Virgin on the dashboard of the car that parks next to me. Small and plastic, arms open wide. Facing the interior. True story!
