Here’s your 2 hour playlist
Regular Clusterflock readers know about my affection for late ’60s & early ’70s jams, a category which includes no Dylan or Van Morrison, because their long tracks are verbocentric, not musicocentric; no ambient, electronica or Terry Reid, because those are an entirely different sort of extended music; no Led Zeppelin because the longest of their good jams is a bit too short at 8:40; not even any Cream because their greatest tracks are all short and concise–their jams are boring.
So here’s your playlist, including boogie, jazz (okay, it’s a ringer, but it is a live extended version–the studio version could fit on a 45), jazz-rock, glossy rock and even rock-gospel.
“Fried Hockey Boogie”–Canned Heat, Boogie with Canned Heat
“Misterioso” (live)–Thelonious Monk, Monk’s Greatest Hits
“Stop”–James Gang, Yer Album
“Moon in June”–Soft Machine, Thirds
“Wade in the Water” (live)–Chambers Brothers, Love, Peace and Happiness
“Eight Miles High” (live)–Byrds, (Untitled)
“Revelations”–Love, Da Capo
The six-part “Love” suite that opens Happy Trails–Quicksilver Messenger Service

weird—I just heard the 18-minute “Revelations” for the first time this past week… and I dig it.
You ever hear the long track (is it Halifax?) by the Hampton Grease Band?
No Little Feat? Some of their live jams stand up very well. That complaint aside, I very much like the selection here!
“Revelations”. Love. Da Capo. Yep.
ah…okay.
but…
Nantucket Sleighride
The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys
Scheherazade
