Howling Man | Guts | Kevin Ayers | John Cale

There’s an apocryphal story surrounding the men in these two clips, but it don’t matter. It’s just vulgar naturalism.

There should never be holes in there. In the end I mean.

Those years of my young childhood, 1981-1990, are still something of a mystery to me. I understood their pop culture as a child looks with fascination of the world of adults; even now, I feel a certain sense of detachment from the milieu of that era, quite different from the easy imagined familiarity of earlier generations. The sounds are echos of adolescent dreams, misremembered, imagined, or sometimes perplexingly true-to-life.

Mike, you’ve expressed most wonderfully the general answer to what I think was the gist of one of those MOJO magazine questions (a good while back). The question: What pop stars scared you when you were a child?

Footnote: My One-Night Stand with Kevin Ayers. Not my one one-night stand with Kevin Ayers, mind you. Not that I would have declined the invitation.
