Nader’s take on progressives
From The Nation:
So long as progressives are willing to settle for the “least worst” alternative, they will remain ignored and excluded from power, he suggested.
This kind of talk from Nader drives some people to rage against him. He returns the favor by discussing “the rage that many in our nation feel towards liberals.” Barack Obama, he insists, does not intend to alter anything fundamental about the causes. “This rage is a legitimate expression of very real betrayal,” Nader explained. “The working class, most of whom do not vote, watch Democratic candidate after Democratic candidate run for office promising to support labor and protect jobs and then, once elected, trot off to Washington to pass the corporate-friendly legislation drawn up by the 35,000 lobbyists who work for our shadow government.”

Not entirely relevant but:
“She explains lucidly why she is writing in Nader for president = I kick her squarely in the crotch and describe how it doesn’t really hurt.”
I posted this to Twitter today and no-one seemed to appreciate it there either.
Aw, what the heck do they know? About Life. About Pain.
Nader is a formula that leads back to Nader and only Nader. As soon as he had to do something other than just smear shit on others, he would become half of the do-what-you-have-to-do-to-hang-onto-power system. What he tries to sell is the idea that it’s possible to do an end-around on human nature–that as soon as we (that is, people who agree with him) see that We are in charge, it will be an obvious matter of who should be thrown out and what policies we need. This is the same old washing machine chugging away, appealing to people who dream of easy clarity and sudden might released upon the uncritically designated wrong doers.

This eloquently states the point I had been forming and re-forming in my head all afternoon. Thanks.
Agreed. Although I must admit that I would have never arrived at this level of eloquence. I’m more of a “reach-around” than an “end-around” writer I’m afraid.
With what they’ve been doing to the country for the last 8 years, that’s the least we deserve.
Tracy, for what it’s worth, I saw your Twitter post yesterday and laughed out loud.
As the resident likely Nader voter, I feel as though I should add something to this discussion, but I’m not sure what it is.
I’ll say this: I am officially not voting for Messrs. Obama and Biden (which is a recent development). I am, though, now considering Cynthia McKinney.
