detroit automotive
In the wake of the ongoing discussion of whether Congress should bailout the auto industry, I heard a pundit ask the question: “What contemporary American car would you love to own?”
Anyone?
Anyone?
Bueller?

I don’t have a need or the space for a car. NYC has just enough space for my actual body and maybe an occasional bike. But! I like those Smart cars, and I like the idea of riding around in a golf cart.
I still love regular ol’ Jeeps, though the closest I’ve come to owning one was my late ’80s Suzuki Samurai. And I like the styling of those little Pontiac roadsters, though I don’t like to sit so close to the road.
But those of you who know me know that, despite my deep affection for my Element, I still hanker toward pickups.
Tesla Roadster.
Oh, you meant contemporary American car made by a 100-year-old Detroit company? Hah.
I wouldn’t kick a Corvette or a Viper out of my garage. Or a Ford F-150 if I needed a big pickup.
But if I had the money to buy one, I’d probably buy something else.
What Mary Jeys said. I love walkable communities, though I do love the feeling of a pulling a manual transmission car away from a stop light…quickly.
I have a tough time with the auto bailout issue. I know the economic consequences of Detroit’s meltdown would be disastrous, but…our tax dollars for more Chevy Malibus? *Shudder.*
I really kinda like the current and recent Malibus.
A Honda Civic.
Oh, wait.
I would like a series hybrid powered Chrysler K car. And I agree with Brachinus I would not kick a Corvette out of my garage either. Especially since the 2008 model gets 26 MPG.
