Dear Clusterflock
While working today, I was listening to the audio version of David Rakoff’s Don’t Get Too Comfortable: The Indignities of Coach Class, The Torments of Low Thread Count, The Never- Ending Quest for Artisanal Olive Oil, and Other First World Problems, and I heard this line that made me miss you all so terribly I dropped everything to share:
…when being interviewed, she insisted upon a glass of straight vodka, because, as she said, “I don’t drink water. Fish fuck in it.”

My dad used to say that all the time.
I don’t have all that clear a notion of exactly how fish do fuck.
There’s definitely eggies ‘n’ spermies–I’m sure of that, but where they come from and where they go, I dunno. I’m sure it’s a special moment though and no sleeping in the wet spot.
Love David Rakoff, but not thrilled with his voice/delivery–always so haughty and “I Know Way More Than You Do And This Is What It Sounds Like”. Would prefer Laurie Anderson to read his stuff aloud even though it’d probably take her 3 hours to get through the first page.
xxxooo
The line is originally attributed to no less a hero than W.C. Fields…. but then again, so many great lines are.
