I’ve never written these words in this order before: “I’ll take your word for it, Amy Mabil.”
Of course now I scroll up and see that leaving a comment does not respect the fold. Having seen that I’ll write another phrase that I’ve never written before: “You speak the truth, Amy Mabil.”
for what it’s worth, my buddy went through a similar thing a few years ago. Long story short, he now has 100% mobility and use of this thumb again, important if you’re a carpenter like he is.
I’m so sorry!!! I had a piece of ironwood kick back on me once that cost me a wedge of my finger and a little bone. Nothing like what you are dealing with but I can’t quite look at table saw the same way since. I completely understand your comment about running over it in your mind and realizing what went wrong. It’s hard not to dwell. Please get well soon!
Jesus, what happened to him?
A tablesaw.
Amy, thanks for posting both photos. Now I have a better idea. Yes. It’s gruesome. Shocking. Painful.
But for what it is worth, I imagined something much worse. Time. Skilled attention. Some painful work, alas. And love and forgiveness for one’s self.
My heart goes out to y’all for the mend, and beyond.

Get better Deron.
Shit! I’ve got nothing other than I’m truly very sorry for your loss and that I hope your pain is being managed well.
I can definitely see what you’re going through in Amy’s first pic–no words for it, just really sorry.
Holy crap! Not sure what else to say…my thoughts are with you, Deron.
That looks rather gruesome. Hope you’re doing well, aside from the obvious.
Man, I am deeply sorry, and like the others I am glad the surgeons do such good work and have ways to manage the pain. You hang in there.
Amy, thanks so much for letting us know and be a part of the support group.
Oh, honey.
Nice category tags, Amy.
Deron – what the heck. So sorry for this. We are thinking of you from here also – I’ll check in with you later.
