Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

That song depresses me.

Is it a metaphor for how a lot of people only want to hang out with you if you’ll do something for them, or are reindeer really just inherently phony and superficial?

I heard that Grandma was the alcoholic and a tramp besides, and Grandpa paid off that reindeer.

Before that fateful evening, the other reindeer were jealous that Mrs. Claus appreciated Rudolph’s manners, keen eye and sense of style. He had been the only reindeer often invited to her afternoon teas. A couple of the more meticulous elves were also in attendance on such occasions, Bruce and Curtis. Conversation was lively and animated. Topics ranging from architecture and design to ballroom dancing, literature and marriage equity.

Blitzen was the instigator of Rudolph’s torment at the hooves of the others. Secretly he longed for an invitation to tea. Secretly, Blitzen loved Curtis.

Thank you, Rick. That’s exactly as I imagined it.
