Ezra Pound was a truck driver?

Actually, yes. During those St Elizabeth years he was often sneaked out on weekends to make long hauls for Acme Freight, famous from the Roadrunner commercials. But it’s merely legend that the Travelocity gnome is based upon Pound’s showing up in totally unbelievable and unexpected places without notice.

Oh, to run into E.P. at a truck stop!

E.P. at the truck stop wearing flip-flops, bermudas and an A-shirt, buying Little Debbie snack cakes and renting the audiobook of Tuesdays with Morrie.

I think he’d be sitting in the Subway inside, watching.

Story: Ezra Pound and Glenn Gould meet in a busy truck stop. Ezra starts reading the Cantos while beating a little drum; Glenn starts humming louder and louder–but it all cancels out and turns out to be just another day at the truck stop, where the daily special is chickenfried migas and snuff coffee.

Daryl, thank you both for the story and the tip on what to do with migas that are just a tiny bit ‘off’.
